06 — Sourcing & community

Nothing fancy — just what we actually do.

What we source

  • Coffee we roast ourselves from importers we can name; every batch logged
  • Regional eggs and dairy when the supply chain cooperates
  • Whole, oat, and 2% milk — allergens posted at the counter daily

What we give back

  • Discount for reusable cups; spent grounds free for local gardens
  • Open jobs posted in-shop before they go online
  • Roasting scheduled off-peak to lighten the load on the grid

Small crew, big mornings. You'll know everyone by name before the week is out.

  • Joe Harlan

    Owner / Head Roaster

Former trail crew lead. Started roasting because camp coffee was an insult. Still refuses to stock flavored syrups.

  • Mara Chen

    Kitchen Lead

Baker by trade, early riser by necessity. Writes the soup board in chalk nobody can read but everyone understands.

  • Elliot Voss

    Bar Manager

Dialing in espresso since 2019. Will tell you exactly why your home grinder matters, then stop if you look tired.

  • Sam Ortiz

    Weekend Counter

College nearby, patience abundant. Knows every regular's order and never makes it weird.

Unsolicited. Unpaid. Mostly accurate. Including the one we framed.

“Best cortado I've had outside the city. Quiet place, no fuss.”

R.T. · Regular, mornings

“Came for a sandwich at lunch and they were already out — said so right away. Coffee was still worth the stop.”

Dana M. · First visit

“Thermos fill policy is weird. Price is fair. Coffee is better than fair.”

Chris P. · Weekly pickup

“I'm here for the oat latte. Appreciate that nobody tried to upsell me a size I didn't ask for.”

Helen W. · Weekends

Find the shop

We're up Summit Ridge Road — above the village, past the point where your calves file a complaint. Look for the green awning and the smell of roast. We'll have something warm ready when you catch your breath.

  • From the Trans-Canada

Take the Lake Louise exit, then climb. And climb. Summit Ridge is 2.4 km of switchbacks that feel personally motivated. We're on the left after the gravel pull-off — white building, pine-green awning, oxygen optional.

  • Parking

A few spots out front, small lot behind if those are gone. Same rule as the lakeshore lot in July: show up after 8am and you're riding the Parks Canada shuttle with everyone else who also 'just wanted a quick walk around the lake.'

  • When GPS fails

It will. Call us from whichever hairpin just broke your spirit — half our first-timers do. We keep the kettle on.
